Assistant Director of Finance (Deputy S151 Officer)

Located on the Lancashire coast, with Preston, Blackpool and the Lake District nearby, the borough of Wyre is an area of great contrasts and includes urban areas, seaside resorts, traditional market towns and picturesque villages. The council is politically stable and financially secure, with a clear vision: ‘Wyre is a place where everyone can prosper’ and across the council our staff strive to achieve this for businesses and residents within the borough. We are a council where ambition and progressive ways of working are encouraged and nurtured.

We are currently seeking to appoint an Assistant Director of Finance (Deputy S151) who will work with the Director of Finance and Governance (S151) to provide strategic financial leadership, supporting the delivery of Wyre’s key Council Plan objectives and helping to ensure that the council’s long-term financial health and sustainability is maintained. The role provides an opportunity for experienced candidates or those looking for the next step in their career at a stable and strong district council. We are proud of our supportive approach in the team, developing current members of staff and providing opportunities to obtain new qualifications and develop their skills. The same support would apply to this role as we believe in nurturing our talent and encouraging growth.

Responsible for Finance Business Partnering, Financial Systems and Reporting (including Payroll), the successful candidate will play a key role as part of the wider Senior Leadership Team. Transformation and change is a significant strand to the Council Plan and the postholder will ensure that the key financial systems are updated, developed and replaced as the business need requires.

Local government reorganisation is being encouraged by central government. Lancashire have not opted to apply for the fast track route which means that the council should remain sovereign until at least 1 April 2028. This means an exciting time with lots of opportunity for involvement in the development of the outlook for local government in the area.

If you are an inspirational leader and a strategic thinker with a suitable background in local government finance and the desire and determination to enable us to capitalise on the huge opportunities within our borough, then we want to hear from you.
