Thurrock Council is on a major change journey and is looking for people to help in the delivery of this. Following the Council being put into intervention in 2022 a vast amount of work has already been successfully undertaken to ensure the Council is back on track and moving towards financial stability, but there is more to do.

The Council is currently recruiting to a number of roles across the finance team to help drive the Councils new Corporate Plan ‘A Fresh Start for Thurrock’, which sets out how they will operate over the next five years as it recovers and rebuilds trust with residents and communities. The finance team will play a hugely important role in securing the Councils future.

The Head of Financial Assurance, Internal Audit Risk and Insurance will report to the Assistant Director Strategic and Corporate Finance, working closely with senior stakeholders and Members across the Council, to lead and develop a team that implements key services across Internal Audit, Risk Management and Insurance. The team should be focused on contributing to and delivering the objectives from the Financial Services Business Plan as well as supporting the delivery of efficiencies and savings. Key deliverables will include driving service transformation, developing and implementing an enterprise risk management service as well as building an effective and value add audit service and a proactive and efficient insurance service.

To be suitable for the role you need to be either a fully qualified accountant or hold relevant qualifications across internal audit, risk management or insurance. A knowledge of the issues facing local government especially those relevant to service is essential as is experience of managing teams in a large complex organisation.
