Job Details

Known for our rich history, vibrant community and home of the world-famous Epsom Derby, Epsom and Ewell is a unique blend of urban and rural environments, offering a high quality of life for our residents. We are committed to our vision for 2040 to be 'a great place in which to live and work, both now and in the future'.

Director of Corporate Services (Section 151 Officer) | £107,129 - £125,721 (including 15% uplift for statutory duties)

We are now on the lookout for an exceptional leader to join our Senior  Leadership Team as the Director of Corporate Services (Section 151 Officer); a unique opportunity to be at the heart of a dynamic and forward-thinking local authority.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the proper administration of the financial affairs of the authority and be our Section 151 Officer. Your strategic leadership and management will cover all aspects of Finance, as well as ICT, Customer Services, Business Support, HR and Organisational Development, Procurement, Performance and Risk and more.

Whilst we have a balanced budget, we, like everyone, face challenges ahead. We continue to deliver excellent services, and our robust management has seen us make the best of a challenging financial environment. In this role we will look to you to find opportunities to transform, change and innovate to help equip us against the challenges we face. We will look to you for growth as much as we do efficiencies; and income as much as we do savings. This role is critical to our future and will enable our council to do more with less and ensure we can continue to deliver for those that need us most.

About you

As our Section 151 Officer, your finance background will enable you to provide assured leadership to ensure effective financial management and the long-term financial sustainability of our organisation. We are looking for a visionary leader that is comfortable working closely with elected members and be adept at giving high quality advice on strategy and policy issues linked to your services.

You will have strong relationship management skills and a collaborative approach, essential for building consensus and momentum both within and outside the organisation. You will be a passionate advocate for the potential of digital technology in supporting streamlined, flexible services whilst appreciating how good governance and corporate services support a successful organisation.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a small and friendly authority committed to delivering high-quality services to around 80,000 residents and 3,700 businesses. You will play a central role in overseeing our operational and cultural change programme as well as supporting the relocation of our main  office to a modern, fit-for-purpose building.

If you are ready to take on this exciting challenge and make a significant impact on the future of Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, we would love to hear from you.

For more information or for a confidential discussion about your suitability, please contact Frazer Thouard (07384 810 743), Kembi Coakelin (07778 364 191) or Tim Hills (07393 011 130) from GatenbySanderson and to apply click the Apply button.

Closing Date: Sunday 17th November
