Head of Commercial Finance

 Allen Lane are delighted to be supporting a Local Authority client with the recruitment of an interim Head of Finance for their commercial entities. The commercial entities play a crucial role in generating revenue and ensuring the sustainability of key services so this is a pivotal position in managing their financial strategy. This 6-month interim assignment will provide strategic financial leadership across the commercial finance team and act as a key point of contact between the council and the Directorship of their commercial entities.

Key Responsibilities 

 Lead the financial oversight of the council's commercial entities within the council. 

Provide strategic financial advice to senior management, supporting decision-making for investments and business growth. 

Drive robust financial governance, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and reporting standards. 

Oversee financial planning, forecasting, and budget management for commercial operations. 

Identify and mitigate financial risks, while maximizing opportunities for growth and profitability. 

Work closely with business units to optimize financial performance and efficiency. 

Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. 

Deliver clear and concise financial reports to senior stakeholders, including executive boards and elected members.

Key Skills and Experience

A qualified accountant with significant experience in a senior financial leadership role. 

Strong commercial acumen with a proven track record of working with commercial entities, ideally within Local Government.

Experience in financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. 

Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels. 

Knowledge of local government financial frameworks and regulations is desirable.
