2 x Head of Finance Business Partnering – Communities or Strategy and Resources

The Council recognises that it needs a strong finance team to help navigate these times and these roles are part of investing in, growing and strengthening its capacity. We are looking to build a finance team that is constantly searching for efficiencies and improving effectiveness to maintain a balanced budget, but also ensuring we are driving insightful advice and are confident in providing constructive challenge.

The Heads of Finance Business Partnering will report to the Assistant Director of Business Partnering and will work in partnership with either Communities or Strategy and Resources, becoming a trusted advisor offering strategic real time support and analysis to aid decision making. They will work closely with operational and corporate directors and Cabinet Members.

The roles will lead and develop teams focused on building and maintaining relationships across their service looking to deliver insight linking financial reporting to business strategies, and proactively identifying risks and how to mitigate them. They will also support strategic initiatives and transformation projects as well as supporting the delivery of savings plans.

Communities covers a diverse range of services ranging from housing and homelessness, including the housing revenue account, through to highways and refuse collection. Very much the core council services that every resident sees and feels. Homelessness is a pressing issue for the Council and this role will be working alongside the Regeneration Business Partner as we work on real solutions.

Resources and Strategy Directorates are the heart of the Council, underpinning the delivery of the major frontline services. They contain services ranging from Revenues and Benefits through to Legal and Democratic Services, with lots in between. A complete mix of frontline and support services, with some accountable bodies thrown in too.

To be suitable for either of these roles candidates would need to be a fully qualified commercially aware accountant with proven experience of leading a business partnering team in a large complex organisation, helping improve the service being delivered. Previous involvement of influencing and negotiating with senior stakeholders is essential.
