Your new place of work

Sefton is a vibrant local authority on a journey of aspiration and ambition as it works towards delivering its exciting Vision 2030. This journey is shared with our partners and communities as we strive to ensure Sefton is a confident and connected Borough.

Sefton has the best of both worlds, from the vibrant city of Liverpool to the south, to miles of fantastic coastline and respected green spaces in the north. The borough is internationally recognised for its outstanding natural beauty and commitment to sustainability. Sefton communities look out for each other. We focus on our similarities and diversities but never on our differences, working together to live a fruitful life.

Sefton has a strong track record of partnership working and place leadership, and for having a motivated and dedicated workforce that is resilient and adaptable, it puts the Council in the best possible place to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead.

About the role

Following a structural review, three exciting opportunities have arisen in the finance service, for Strategic Finance Managers to support the Adult Social Care and Health, Children’s Social Care and Education Excellence services. These challenging and key roles will give you the opportunity to be the lead adviser on all aspects of operational and strategic financial management issues within these services.

Reporting to the Deputy s151 officer, and as a key member of the senior corporate finance team, you will provide strong visible proactive leadership and a collaborative and business partner approach to these Council services. You will be required to liaise and work closely with Executive Directors and Assistant Directors to understand their business requirements and understand pressures facing services, whilst ensuring that services contribute to and work within the Council’s financial strategy.

The provision of first-class management information to inform decision making at both a service and corporate level, enhanced with insight and expertise, will help you build effective and trusted relationships with senior officers and members throughout the Council.

You should have in depth experience in a senior financial manager role, preferably within local government or the public sector, experience of staff management at a senior level and a demonstrable record of completed projects of an original and technically challenging nature as well as a proven ability to lead transformation activity and manage organisational change and development within a financial / performance environment.

We very much look forward to receiving your application for these exciting roles and if you would like an informal discussion on any aspect of the role or process please contact Paul Reilly, Service Manager - Finance (Deputy S151 Officer) via email (paul.reilly@sefton.gov.uk) to arrange a call.

The closing date for applications is 9th July 2024.
