This is an exciting opportunity, to join a strong, committed and dedicated finance team at an innovative London borough where we are putting residents at the heart of everything we do.
We currently have two vacancies at Head of Finance level working with two of our key service areas:- Adult Social Care and Public Health and Housing and Social Investment, and are looking for dynamic senior accountants to join us.
You will be part of a very supportive team, reporting to the Director of Financial Management (Deputy s151 Officer) and be required to use your expertise and knowledge to drive forward a transformation programme, support and develop the finance business partnering arrangements and continue to support Grenfell Recovery.
These Head of Finance roles are key members of the council’s senior finance management team responsible for providing high-quality financial accounting, strategic management accounting as well as budget management, planning and reporting to major services within the council including the relevant Lead Members, Strategic & Operational Directors, Senior Managers, and others, on behalf of the council’s finance function.
Key responsibilities include;
- Play a leading strategic role in the management of the Council’s financial position, including regular monitoring and reporting to Senior Officers and Members.
- Support the development of capital and revenue business cases from strategic outline to full business case delivery, through assessment of the financial and resource implications of options being considered in support and delivery of the Medium-Term Financial Strategy for the directorate.
- Provide financial advice and the modelling of financial implications for key projects and programmes, including the development of business cases and long term financial projects.
- Plan the delivery of financial management, financial reporting, financial advice and support to the lead members, Strategic and Operational Directors, departmental service heads, capital programme managers, budget holders and others as required covering both short and long term financial planning to benefit the delivery of the services to the Council.
- Manage a team finance professionals.
- Advise teams of officers and Members, across the Council, on the most cost effective way to deliver the service and work with them to deliver that contract.
To be suitable for the role you need to be a Qualified Accountant (Preferably CIPFA) with a proven track record of achievement at a management level in a similarly large and complex organisation, in addition to knowledge of the major factors, influences and legislation facing local government.
We offer a flexible hybrid working environment, with the expectation to be based in the office 50% of the time.
