Chief Accountant

The Chief Accountant reports to the Corporate Director of Financial Services and will be the primary source of technical accounting advice to the Council and its Members. As well as leading the team overseeing the production of the Statement of Accounts and ensuring financial controls, the role will also play a pivotal role in supporting the modernisation of the Finance Service. The Chief Accountant will be a key member of the finance leadership team, working very closely with senior stakeholders across the Council.

To be suitable for the role, you need to be a qualified accountant with excellent technical accounting knowledge and the ability to translate complex financial information to stakeholders. Previous experience of playing a leading role during close-down, ideally in a public sector setting, is essential as is proven experience of driving through improvements.
