Arun District Council serves a population of almost 160,000 people across Arundel, Bognor Regis, Littlehampton & surrounding villages. They deliver a wide range of services to residents, business, and visitors. The Council appointed a new Chief Executive earlier in the year and he will transform the Council. The successful applicant will be involved in assisting with this. Alongside this, the Council has been granted £19.4m from the Government Levelling Up Fund so there are undoubtedly some interesting and exciting challenges to come.

Your new role

These are exciting times for the right candidate to lead and deliver a fit for purpose accounting, and treasury management service that support the achievements of the Council’s objectives. The Group Accountant will manage the Accountancy Team providing management and financial accountancy support to the Council. Responsible for the formulation of the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) financial strategy and policies, the budget and Council tax setting process; Collection Fund; revenue and capital accounting and financing. This is a pivotal post in providing high quality financial advice to Officers and Elected Members. No two days are ever the same.

What you'll need to succeed

Qualified CCAB Accountant or a part qualified and actively studying towards full qualification 5+ years Local Government experience in Finance. Demonstrable experience in budget preparation and monitoring in local government. Hands on experience of Final accounts close down process and preparation of financial statements. Working knowledge of capital accounting. Experience of completing central government returns Ability to interpret complex legislation e.g. from government circulars IT literate and previous experience of Microsoft Office programs Use of computerised financial management systems. Working knowledge and appreciation of Code of Practice in Local Government Accounting and SeRCOP. Treasury Management and Prudential Guidance Managing staff
