Bradford Children’s and Families Trust is taking the delivery of social care for children in our district in a positive new direction. Owned by the Council but operating at arm’s length, it will develop new ways of working and build a new future as it offers safe, transparent support to some of the most vulnerable children and young people in our area.

When you join us as Director of Finance and Resources, you’ll provide the strategic leadership, management, planning and direction for the finances and resources of the Trust. These will cover a wide range of support functions including organisational performance, commissioning and contracting, legal services, HR, IT, property, business support and customer relations. Responsible for ensuring that resources are in place to deliver positive outcomes for the children and young people we support, we’ll also expect you to see that the required service improvements are in line with the Trust’s business plan and key performance indicators.

Collaborating with the Chief Executive, the Chair and Board to develop and implement the vision, values and objectives of the Trust, you’ll take a lead in shaping the detail of the business plan. You’ll also ensure the Trust maintains a strong, effective performance in all its activities, with a particular focus on inspiring staff via a culture of engagement, continuous improvement and empowerment to foster innovative change.

With a recognised accountancy qualification and proven leadership and people management skills, you’ll have worked at a senior level in a multi-stakeholder and political environment. A strong corporate player and capable of developing shared approaches with your colleagues, we’ll expect you to have a track record of managing finances and resources to deliver improvements in children’s services in a Trust, local authority or comparable complex organisation.

Politically sensitive and ready to establish positive relationships with everyone you work with, you’ll have the expertise to provide effective and professional advice and guidance to Board Members, Members and key stakeholders. It’s essential that you possess significant commercial or commissioning experience, and knowledge of strategy and policy development and implementation for larger organisations.

We’ll look for evidence of delivering added value in financial strategy and innovative business models, and the expertise to translate corporate strategy into business plans, budgets and policies. Outstanding communication and influencing skills are also vital, as is the ability to provide clear, balanced advice on strategic issues that achieve corporate and service objectives.
