Description of CoLP: The City of London is the historic heart of London packed with history, commercial activity and culture. It has both a rich legacy of historic buildings and a large number of iconic sites including St Paul’s, the Bank of England, the Royal Exchange, and the Gherkin.

The City of London Police protects the people, businesses and infrastructure of the City of London. Our unique strengths include our experience of policing and protecting one of the most important, dynamic and challenging environments in the UK whilst leading the national response to fraud.

We lead the physical security of the Square Mile, balancing tradition with modern challenges, and maintaining well established relationships with commercial and law enforcement partners worldwide, which maintains integrity and ease of trading in the City of London. We deliver a world class conventional and digital policing environment, supporting safety by design, leading the delivery of a safe place to live, work and visit whether physically or virtually.

Description of Department: It is an exciting time to join the Finance team, with its future vision to provide an exceptional Finance service, supporting and enabling front line policing. This includes supporting transformational change, driving commercial opportunities and building strong relationships across the Force and with our partners.

Purpose of the Role: We are looking for an excellent Finance Business Partner to provide financial advice to enable the maximisation of resources and the successful delivery of value for money services. The post holder will provide essential financial support to a range of Police services and the Force’s extensive capital programme. The responsibilities of the role include financial modelling, budget setting and monitoring and year-end closing of accounts.

The successful candidate will be required to promote financial standards and practices across the Force to ensure a financially compliant organisation and provision of financial, commercial and strategic support to budget holders, service managers and senior management. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and flow of information between the Finance Team and service areas.

As well as a strong grounding in financial services, candidates will have an ethos of continuous improvement to support ongoing development of the service, the team and the Force. A background in public sector finance would be an advantage. This is a real opportunity to guide future direction and make a real difference.

Essential Criteria – including the behaviours that will be tested at application and interview:

  • Knowledge of the key issues affecting the Police Force and in particular those relating to financial management.
  • Strong computer literacy skills including excellent spreadsheet skills and extensive use of accountancy systems.
  • Qualified CCAB accountant.

The application and interview will be tested under Level 2 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.

Applicants who fail to address the skills/knowledge/experience of the job description will not be considered.
