Over recent years Enfield Council has made great progress on pushing ahead with bold and positive ambitions to improve the Council and our borough. The Council has delivered a new agenda with working to deliver a lifetime of opportunities for all our residents, including launching the most ambitious Council–led house building programme in the history of the borough, securing investment for community initiatives to help young people make positive life choices, bringing new businesses that provide high–skill jobs into Enfield and securing investment in our town centres.
As part of this ambitious plans the finance teams have been on a transformation journey to strengthen the finance team, including bringing in extra resources, so they can provide more support to the wider Council.
The Corporate Accountants will support the Deputy Chief Accountants and will be a key member of a team that ensures the Council’s financial accounts are a true reflection of activity undertaken by the Council. You be a technical expert in a part of Corporate Finance and provide specialist financial accounting advice to budget holders and other officers to support decision-making.
We are looking for the following specialisms:
- Assets and Technical Accountant: This role is responsible for maintaining the Asset Register and leases including liaison with internal officers and external valuers to ensure that the information held in the asset register is accurate, up to date and is correctly accounted for. The officer plays a key role in financial control monitoring and the production of the annual accounts.
- Finance Systems Accountant: This role is responsible for the maintenance of the Council’s finance systems looking after coding and hierarchies, ensuring the Accounts, monitoring and forecasting works seamlessly for Business Partnering and Corporate Finance. The role works closely with other officers to provide system reports for management information and to support the completion of external government returns. The role will also contribute to systems development and improvements and therefore a good understanding finance systems is required.
- Taxation and Technical: This role is responsible for ensuring that reviewing all VAT, CIS, Corporation Tax and SDLT is both calculated correctly, appropriate records are kept and that the Council is tax-efficient. This officer will also support work on ensuring effective financial controls and the production of the Statement of Accounts.
The roles will offer an opportunity to gain valuable experience alongside a sound understanding of the Council's technical accounting processes and procedures, leading to effective financial controls and the production of the Statement of Accounts.
The successful candidate would need to be a fully qualified CCAB or CIMA accountant or a part-qualified accountant activity studying with strong Excel and analytical skills. They would need to be experienced in the closure of accounts and have sound technical accounting skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also essential in order to deal with staff at all levels both within the Council and from outside organisations.
Enfield Council offers a very flexible working arrangement, with the ability to working at home the majority of time available.
