Are you ready to support the UK’s largest local authority?

With 1 million people relying on the services provided by Birmingham City Council every single day, we need a forward thinking and highly skilled Finance team. With exciting capital projects, new ways of working and the Commonwealth Games in July, it’s a packed agenda and we need several Qualified Management Accountants across our Business Partnering and Financial Planning and Strategy teams to join us.

Data analysis and financial modelling are at the heart of this role, as you’d expect. There’ll be budgets as well as stakeholders to manage and we’ll rely on your influential approach when providing advice on politically sensitive challenges. We’ll look to you to guide colleagues on the best use of resources available now and in the future. This is your opportunity to use your strengths in managing complex financial challenges in a unique environment.

Working with colleagues from your own team, as well as the wider finance team to contribute ideas and shape how we do things. There will be an opportunity for you to deputise for the Finance Manager as and when required. You’ll be working on projects taking ownership from initial concept through to final delivery, developing and coaching the team as you go. We will look to you to set KPIs and achieve them, as well as making sure that the team and your projects comply with all essential guidelines and regulations. This is a truly collaborative environment, and we’ll encourage you to share your expertise and make your opinions matter.

On a practical level, you need to be CCAB qualified and have an in-depth knowledge of management accounting, planning, budgeting, and forecasting. We’ll utilise your well-developed communications skills to create insightful business documents and reports. And we’ll be sure to make the most of your deep knowledge of the relevant legislative framework that impact the delivery of financial services within a local authority environment.

These are exciting times for Birmingham City Council, and you could be part of our transformation story in Finance. Isn’t it time you got in touch to tell us about your career aspirations and how you meet our brief?

Please upload a Supporting Statement via the attachments on to your application. This is required, you need to describe how your experience and skills fit the essential criteria for the role as specified in the Person Specification; please note that we do not accept CVs.
