Over recent years Enfield Council has made great progress on pushing ahead with bold and positive ambitions to improve the Council and our borough. The Council has delivered a new agenda with working to deliver a lifetime of opportunities for all our residents, including launching the most ambitious Council-led house building programme in the history of the borough, securing investment for community initiatives to help young people make positive life choices, bringing new businesses that provide high-skill jobs into Enfield and securing investment in our town centres.

As part of this ambitious plans the finance teams have been on a transformation journey to strengthen the finance team, including bringing in extra resources, so they can provide more support to the wider Council.

The Deputy Chief Accountant is a new position to work alongside an existing Deputy Chief Accountant, to deliver the Council’s annual Statement of Accounts, ensure effective accounting controls and liaise with the Council’s external auditors.  You will be expected to support the Chief Accountant in any aspect of corporate finance and provide resilience across the team, whilst specifically supporting and guiding in the areas of Collection Fund, taxation and technical accounting.  You will also be expected to contribute towards the planning and preparation for the Council’s new ERP.

This role will offer an opportunity to gain valuable leadership experience alongside a sound understanding of the Council’s technical accounting processes and procedures, leading to effective financial controls and the production of the Statement of Accounts. 

The successful candidate would need to be a fully qualified CCAB or CIMA accountant with strong Excel and analytical skills.  They would need to be experienced in the closure of accounts and have sound technical accounting skills.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also essential in order to deal with staff at all levels both within the Council and from outside organisations.

Enfield Council offers a very flexible working arrangement, with the ability to working at home the majority of time available.

We are looking to move quickly with this role, with the closing date being Monday the 6th June and interviews happening WC 13th June.
