Job Details

Hammersmith & Fulham is a dynamic, diverse and exciting place to live and work. Sitting alongside four and a half miles of the River Thames and nestled between one of the world’s busiest airports, the City of London and London’s West End, the Borough is aiming to be the best place for business in Europe, as well as a thriving hub for the arts, culture, sports and leisure. Hammersmith & Fulham, like most local authorities, continues to face significant challenges. The Government’s austerity agenda has triggered funding cuts while at the same time demand for services has increased. During this time the importance of finance has only been reinforced as they seek to look for ever more efficient ways to make resources go further. This is an exciting time to join the finance team. Have undergone a re-structure there are a number of exciting opportunities to join a highly committed and innovative team, dedicated to building on their performance and contribution to the success of the borough and welfare of its residents.

Working in the Education and Schools Finance Team, the primary focus of this role will be to maintain relatively complex pupil data models. The data held relates to children with special educational needs and this post is responsible for the provision of multi-year financial forecasts.

The council is part of the DfE High Needs Safety Valve programme and the information produced must be robust, consistent, and meet the internal and external reporting requirements. The ability to manage large datasets and report on a timely basis is therefore seen as vital. Due to the complex nature of the service area, an attention to detail, excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential.

This role also has responsibility for providing finance support across the capital programme for schools and children’s services property assets. A significant programme of capital investment in Hammersmith and Fulham’s schools is planned over the medium term.

You will be a part qualified or qualified accountant CCAB/CIMA or be AAT with significant experience. You will have excellent IT skills and be fully conversant with Microsoft applications and the wider M365 environment, ideally with experience of using Power BI as an analyst and as a developer. You will have advanced Excel skills, particularly with the use of lookups, power pivot and power query and use of these to comfortably manage large and complex datasets.
