This role reports to the Finance Manager and you will provide accounting support to budget holders responsible for the HRA (Housing Revenue Account). You will provide support in relation to all budget preparation and management reporting and represent the team at internal meetings.

This role requires someone who is fully competent managing budget setting and monitoring, producing costings for decision making, working closely with budget holders to support them to understand their budgets and variances. You will also be responsible for reconciling the housing rental income account. You will assist with co-ordinating the close of accounts and be able to write effective reports and communicate the content of any reports effectively to financial and non-financial personnel. Communication within the team will also be critical and the successful candidate should have the ability to spot potential issues and to address those so that issues are dealt with quickly and effectively.

You are likely to be studying towards an accounting qualification (CCAB or CIMA) or be AAT qualified. A track record of achievement in managing key elements of the budget cycle is desired, as is excellent IT skills – you must be proficient using the Microsoft suite of applications, in particular Excel and will ideally have Power BI analytical skills. An ability to build strong relationships with service managers is essential and you must be able to demonstrate the ability to influence and to genuinely support decision making. This role will suit someone with ambition and drive and some experience, or understanding of local government finance, will be a distinct advantage.
