An opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, proactive and customer focused individual to join the Council’s high performing Finance team, supporting the Community & Housing (C&H) department.
The Principal Accountant role supports the Service Financial Adviser (Finance Manager), acting as their deputy and leading on various elements of the revenue budget setting, monitoring and year-end processes for the C&H directorate as well as a variety of ad-hoc responsibilities such as grant claims and reconciliations. The position will require financial analysis skills and input into reporting for various stakeholders, including senior managers, Directors & Members.
The position would suit an individual with initiative and the ambition to further their skills as the role can offer many opportunities depending on the experience of the candidate and appetite for development. For example, there will be many opportunities for exposure to corporate management.
A fundamental aspect of the role will be engagement with Budget Managers and contributing to a culture of empowering service departments and encouraging ownership of their budgets. The ability to scrutinise and challenge will also be key, with the aim of ultimately improving the quality of financial information, reporting and understanding throughout the organisation.
The post holder must hold full professional membership of CIPFA or equivalent (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
