Feel valued, inspired and empowered

Islington is a borough of great strengths: thriving businesses; excellent transport links; outstanding services; and most importantly, a rich and wonderful diversity of people, cultures and communities. But despite these strengths, too many of our people are in danger of being left behind. We are determined to create a more equal Islington, where everyone who lives in Islington has an equal chance to thrive – so there couldn’t be a more important time to join us as we take our residents, our businesses and community on a new journey to shape the future of our borough.

The finance department is currently going through a restructure to help develop and improve an already effective and passionate finance team. The restructure is built around development, growth and career progression to ensure we create a high performing finance team that can provide even more support to the council and benefit our residents. The next step of the restructure is to really embed the model that we’ve implemented, ensuring we are challenging the organisation to maximise the delivery of services and have an even bigger impact for our residents.

The Senior Finance Officers will work support the Assistant and Deputy Finance Managers in either Community Wealth Building and Commercial, or in Corporate. The roles will provide technical support and financial advice to ensure that the Council’s financial resources are managed effectively. Key responsibilities will include;

  • Supporting financial management to empower budget holders and drive value for money
  • Contributing to financial planning and budgeting by creating financial models and analysis to predict the impact of future service demands
  • Communicating with officers across financial teams to coordinate effective and timely budget monitoring, whilst promoting a creative and proactive attitude
  • Ensuring the reviewing and updating of all documentation, policies, procedures and compliance within statutory requirements

To be suitable for the role you must provide evidence of continuing professional development, this can be through an AAT qualification or studying towards a CCAB. Experience of working in a corporate department for a large complex organization is also desirable.

For more information on the role and how to apply please visit https://allenlanerecruitment.wixsite.com/islington or contact Jack Cox at Allen Lane on 07921 336629 / JackCox@allenlane.co.uk . The closing date for applications is 30th May

Islington offers a very flexible hybrid working environment.

Applications from those looking to work reduced or condensed hours are also encouraged.

If you come and work with us, we’ll ask that you commit to our mission of creating a more equal Islington for all our residents, and that you work diligently and efficiently to help us achieve it. In return we’ll offer fair pay, good working conditions, development opportunities and some great employee benefits.
