West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue helps to support a wide, diverse community covering an area of over 783 square miles and a population of 2.3m people.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue serves the five metropolitan boroughs of City of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, City of Leeds and City of Wakefield. The Metropolitan county has grown to become the fourth largest in the UK after Greater London, West Midlands and Greater Manchester. The county also has Leeds Bradford International Airport.

The mission of the fire & rescue service is to keep the people of West Yorkshire safe and to provide an efficient and effective service to the community. The service has 40 fire stations and 46 frontline appliances.

Your role

The role is wide and varying, including providing accurate, understandable, and timely financial information to enable budget holders at all levels to manage their budgets efficiently and effectively, and undertaking Treasury activities in support of the Authority’s cash balances.

What you will need

As a Career Grade role we are looking for those that need support with a career in accountancy as well as those who are already qualified and experienced. This is a post you can apply for if you have practical experience in budget preparation and monitoring, the ability to adhere to strict deadlines and are looking for a new career opportunity. We are looking to appoint people at different points on the career grade structure according to qualifications and experience.

Entry level requirements:

As a part qualified Accounting Technician (Minimum AAT Level 3) you will be given the opportunity to complete your studies for your Accounting Technician qualification and progress through the salary bandings until such time as you are fully qualified and have acquired the experience necessary to carry out the full duties of the role.

Substantive postholder requirements:

You will be a fully qualified Accounting Technician with extensive management accounting experience, proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel) with effective time management and planning skills to meet the diverse requirements of the role.
