Group Auditor

Basildon/Rochford

£43,251 - £47,299 per annum

Ref: 7449

Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Basildon Council to recruit a Group Auditor.

Basildon Borough Council is a dynamic and diverse place to work with ambitious plans in place for its future.

Due to the growth of the Council’s Internal Audit Service an opportunity has arisen for a Group Auditor to join our high performing team; externally recognised as fully conforming to the requirements of the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards and the CIPFA Local Government Application Note.

You will be responsible for the delivery of audit and assurance activity across a diverse and interesting range of customers and topics as part of a team of internal auditors. In tandem with the existing Group Auditor, you will act as operational lead for delivery of audits for our client base. To provide oversight, coaching and feedback on peer and team member performance to support their development.

The role offers hybrid working arrangements, with time split between office-based, on-site client visits and working from home. On a day-to-day basis, you will work with senior service managers and wider governance service colleagues to develop and maintain effective working relations.

You will have experience of internal audit, ideally with a public sector background. This will be matched with a sound knowledge of professional internal audit standards, and excellent communication skills. You will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of risk, control and governance concepts and good practice, and how these relate to the work of internal audit. You will also be able to innovate and drive continuous improvement in our auditing processes, including sharing knowledge with the wider team.

You will be able to present complex information clearly to Senior Managers and other key stakeholders, and provide high quality, clear and concise reports. You will be able to deal tactfully and responsibly with stakeholders and organisations as you carry out assignments covering the entire range of services offered by the Council and its partner organisations.

We welcome applications from those with a relevant qualification, or equivalent experience in internal audit, or from those who can demonstrate that they can add value to our audit clients.

Note: ECC are advertising this role on behalf of Basildon Council and if successful you will be employed by Basildon Council.

Basildon Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults, and expects all employees, contractors, and volunteers to share its commitment to prevent abuse, harm, or exploitation.

The Council applies a robust recruitment vetting process. If you are successful you will need to undergo a Pre-employment Vetting Procedure.
