The starting salary for this role is £53,018 per annum and is based on a 36 working hour week.

The role is based in Surrey, with the main office being in Reigate. It is open to remote working meaning you aren't required in the office 5 days a week. Surrey County Council is the largest employer in Surrey. Our organisation is split across a diverse range of directorates and services spanning the entire county. This Senior Finance Business Partner role sits within the Finance Service but also works closely with colleagues in Education and Culture (e.g. Libraries and Registrars).

This position will work across a number directorates providing support to a diverse set of services. The role will include producing and presenting budget monitoring information to Assistant Directors and providing insight, advice and support. There will also be the opportunity to get involved in project related work as part the transformation programmes the services are involved in.

The successful applicant will work as a Finance Business Partner to:

  • Ensure the completion of the operational financial management cycle, including budgeting, closing, management reporting and monitoring
  • Provide financial insight to the investment into the council's high profile and ambitious SEND transformation programme
  • Provide financial input, covering all aspects of financial advice, analysis and business case development to improvement projects, income generation and service developments. Act as the finance lead for service projects and initiatives, with support and oversight from more senior finance colleagues
  • Provide financial insight, analysis, advice and support to Senior Management within on financial issues to ensure effective decision making, management and challenge in respect of value for money
  • Provide occasional training to budget holders and directorate finance staff on financial matters
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the finance function
  • Manage a team of two staff

To be shortlisted for interview for this position, your application should evidence the following:

  • Qualified Central Council of Accounting Bodies (CCAB), or equivalent qualification
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding public sector financial issues and accounting requirements
  • Proficiency in analysing and interpreting financial data, use of IT within a finance environment and financial modelling techniques
  • Ability to work successfully in a professionally independent and autonomous manner, managing time effectively and adhering to deadlines
