An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Finance Team at Shropshire Council for a new post that will provide support to the Strategic Financial Accountant.

A key aspect of the role is to be the lead on any VAT related items for the Council and provide strategic advice to senior managers and officers on tax issues, the supervision of VAT claims and dealing with HM Customs & Excise on all VAT matters. The Council also provides services to external companies and so this role will also lead on any corporation tax advice and support that is required.

The role will assist with production of the council’s Statement of Accounts for publication and audit, helping to ensure that the accounts are produced accurately within statutory deadlines. Also, you will be responsible for producing statement of accounts for external companies that we provide financial services to and will be the key liaison for external auditors. You will provide advice and technical guidance to the Finance team and service areas on the treatment of revenue and capital transactions in compliance with accounting rules and will be responsible for co-ordinating the regular update of financial policies, guidance and procedure notes for all Council employees.

You will be a positive, results-driven, proactive team player with good attention to detail and the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels across the Council.  You will be confident in engaging with senior management and have excellent communication skills.
