Following a restructure of the Finance Service, a number of exciting opportunities are available.  The Finance Service at Rochdale has a strong background and wishes to grow in its knowledge and improvements especially in areas of automation and best practice.  These aspects have been recognised with the service being shortlisted by Public Finance as a finalist for Finance Team of the Year (Council) 2021.

This post is for a Senior Accountant with the Corporate Finance Team at Grade 9.

The postholder will be responsible for managing a small team which provide financial information to assist the preparation of the annual budget and Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS) and understanding technical updates for Final Accounts and funding announcements.  You will have the opportunity to work with Senior Officers and Members within the Council and offer support to officers working with partner organisations.  The role will reports into the Finance Manager – Corporate and supports the Deputy Chief Finance Officer with monitoring of relevant Government and grant returns, preparation of budget setting modelling and reports and interpretation of technical funding updates.  This post will also be involved with the ongoing improvements of the Finance Service and take a lead in key work streams within this programme.

The successful candidate will preferably have managerial experience within a Local Authority or similar organisation, have strong technical, organisational, report writing and communication skills and be familiar with collaborative working. 

Preferably candidates will be qualified under one of the recognised CCAB professional accountancy bodies but this role is also open for the opportunity for part qualified candidates to learn and complete their studies in role gaining experience at the heart of the Finance Team.

Graduated Mandatory Unpaid Leave is applicable for this post, there will be a pay deduction from salary each month equating to 4 days per year.  This will be pro rata for part time/part year employees.
