We are currently seeking applications for a Finance Assistant within Transport Scotland based in Buchanan House, Glasgow. G4 0HF. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Transport Scotland is the national transport agency for Scotland and is accountable to Parliament and the public through Scottish Ministers, with a budget of around £2 billion per year. Transport is a vital feature of the Scottish Government's focus on increasing sustainable economic growth, and transport investments and policies have major impacts on the economy, people, and the environment.

A B1 finance post exists within the Corporate Programmes Team comprising (1 X C1; 2 X B3; 1 X B2; 2 X B1 & 1 X A3) and will report directly to the B3 Finance Manager within this structure.

The team sits within the Concessionary Travel and Integrated Ticketing Unit (CTITU) which forms part of the wider Bus Accessible & Active Travel Directorate within Transport Scotland. Specifically, CTITU is responsible for delivering:

  • Operation and payments of the concessionary travel schemes.
  • Operation and payments of the Bus Service Operator Grants and/or other operator grants.
  • Delivery of smart and integrated multi-modal ticketing and payments.

CTITU has recently been restructured to accommodate the expansion of free bus schemes to Scottish residents under the ages of 19 and 22 respectively.

The B1 Finance Assistant will support the existing and expanding work within this dynamic Unit at an exciting time in its expansion.

Essential Criteria

  1. Experience and competence working with complex Excel spreadsheets, including use of look up formulae and pivot tables.
  2. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage challenging workloads and competing priorities to meet deadlines, whilst maintain attention to detail.
  3. Ability to understand and interpret relevant data and its impact on wider budget, demonstrating good awareness and understanding of financial management concepts and terminology.
  4. Good oral and written communication skills.
