Queen Elizabeth’s School is one of the UK’s top state schools. We focus on educating boys to become “young men who are confident, able and responsible.” This goes well beyond education in the classroom and outstanding examination results. Established in 1573, we presently have 1,292 boys aged 11 – 19 on roll. Last autumn, the School was again recognised in The Sunday Times’ Parent Power survey as the country’s foremost state school.

Although we have a rich heritage, we are forward thinking and innovative. We need to continually evolve, move forward and invest as we respond to the challenges of the future. Our latest major project is a £3.5m+ Music School which is due to open at the end of the year. Alongside funding from the Department for Education, the School benefits from substantial donations from the Friends of Queen Elizabeth’s, a long established and associated charity. Income generation is a key strand of our work.

The School is seeking an exceptional candidate as Head of Finance / Chief Finance Officer as our current incumbent is retiring. We are looking for a talented and highly skilled individual who relishes such an opportunity. Working with a small team, you will provide vision, strategic direction and leadership in the planning, development and delivery of effective financial management and day-to-day administration. Prudent financial management at a strategic and operational level are fundamental to our success.

A qualified Accountant, you will have a clear track record of strategic and operational financial management/stewardship and of delivering major projects. We believe the skills we seek are transferable and welcome applicants from across the private, public and third sectors. You may well be looking for a new and different context to utilise your expertise. If so, we would like to hear from you.

This is a diverse and stimulating environment where you can work with highly committed and exceptional educators, staff and students and make a real difference to the lives of young people. This is the opportunity to do so in a state school like no other. For a confidential discussion, please contact our advising consultant Mike Phillips (mike.phillips@pentir.com) or telephone 07830 313 915). For more information and to donwload the full information on the role, visit www.pentir.com/qescfo .

Closing date: Friday 3rd December

Queen Elizabeth’s School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment to this post is subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and a medical.
