CIPFA is committed to changing lives for the better.  As a global leader in public financial management and governance our aim is to make a difference to the world we live in. Our work enables people to prosper, protects the vulnerable and helps sustain the environment for future generations.

As a professional institute, we support our members and students to act with integrity and deliver excellence in public financial management throughout their careers.

By setting standards and advising public bodies and governments we help ensure the money and resources used on behalf of citizens are raised and spent fairly, transparently, efficiently and are free from fraud and corruption.

Our thought leadership puts us at the heart of the policy debate, while our education and training offerings and range of advisory services support our members, students, and other public finance professionals, helping them add value to their teams and the organisations for which they work.

CIPFA is a global body, operating at local, national, and international level. Wherever we find ourselves and whoever we are supporting, our goal is to always make it count.

We are now recruiting a permanent full time Divisional Director, Public Financial Management (PFM), to play a key role in leading the development and quality assurance of the Institute’s policy development, accounting standards, professional practice guidance and thought leadership. As a member of CIPFA’s senior leadership team the role will require you to demonstrate strong strategic instincts and be able to support our corporate ambitions through collective endeavours in a matrix working environment.

The Divisional Director PFM will be a public face of CIPFA. You will have established and productive relationships with key decision makers and influencers across governments, regulators and the public sector to build a position where CIPFA is actively involved in, influencing and having impact on the development of public finance management, ethics and governance in the UK and internationally.

Building vibrant and active communities of practice this role will vary hugely, from overseeing the delivery of CIPFA’s technical work, economic and policy research to ensuring effective communications, engaging events and content.

To be suitable for the role you need to be an experienced qualified accountant, with an excellent understanding of technical accounting. You will need to be confident and credible in a range of public financial management topics. You will have a collaborative approach and the ability to develop relationships and influence across a wide range of stakeholders. Excellent leaderships skills and proven experience of modernising and being an agent of change are essential.

Going forward CIPFA will offer very flexible working arrangements, with the ability for the majority of your time being working from home. When you are in the office, you can be based at any of the three main offices in Chester, Edinburgh or London.
