Are you a proactive and helpful person who enjoys a good mix of routine and adhoc tasks? Do you have strong attention to detail, excellent technical IT skills, experience of using accounting software (ideally Unit 4/Agresso) and a real desire to further develop your career in finance? Then join Shelter as a Finance Systems Assistant and you could soon be playing a vital support role within our Finance Systems team.

About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About the team
Our Finance Department works as a team of experts to safeguard resources and support decision making across Shelter. We also strive to ensure Shelter is financially sustainable in order to achieve our vision of a home for everyone. This particular role sits within the Finance Systems team. Our job is to support and improve Shelter’s financial information systems to help make sure our financial processes are efficient, easy to use, and well controlled. We also manage reporting tools and run training sessions to help everyone at Shelter fulfil their financial responsibilities. The finance team will be working in the newly refurbished Old Street office at least once a week, on Wednesdays, from October 2021.

About the role
We’re currently working on an ambitious project that involves changing our coding structure and, should you join us, you’ll get involved with the testing for this whilst also manning our systems mailbox and being responsible for proactively maintaining the data in each of our two finance systems at Shelter. You will be focused on user permissions and workflow tasks but there’ll be plenty of opportunities to work across the financial, logistics and common modules of Unit4 ERP, and with the datacubes and worksheets of Unit4 FP&A. You’ll also need to work with the Finance System Coordinator (a new role also currently being recruited to the team) to catalogue our finance systems processes and policies, as well as with a Finance System Analyst to escalate 2nd line queries appropriately. In short, it’s a great opportunity to develop as you move efficiently between all of the above and contribute to our culture of being a supportive and collaborative team.

About you.
This wide spanning role calls for someone who can deliver 1st line system advice and troubleshooting within Unit4 ERP and user permissions for Unit4 FP&A. A part qualified accountant and/or possibly with financial reporting experience in the Charity sector, you’re used to providing support to internal customers in a technical field like finance or IT. What’s more, you have experience of identifying and implementing improvements to business processes and working to agreed service levels, a flair for problem-solving and the communication skills it takes to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders alike.

Benefits
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
