Overview
Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service proudly serves Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland attending over 8,000 emergency incidents each year. Supporting our operational staff on the front line are a number of non-operational departments, which are key to the successful running of the Service.
Our Finance department is one of those departments and we have just undertaken a restructure, which has resulted in some exciting new roles becoming available. We are therefore looking for a highly motivated and talented Systems Accountant to play a key role in our department. You will be joining at an exciting time where we are looking to drive improvement and make key changes to our accounting & finance processes.
About the role
- You will gain exposure to all areas of accounting including but not limited to:
- Developing and maintaining the Authority’s finance system
- Assisting in the preparation of our annual statutory accounts
- Representing finance on various projects
- Providing training, sound technical advice & support to senior managers
- Capital & Revenue budget monitoring
- Liaising with the external and internal auditors as required
You will report directly to the Finance Manager and may occasionally be asked to deputise.
About you
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and ambitious individual who can drive forward new ideas, implement changes & help the fire service deliver its core objectives.
To be suitable for the role you need to be fully or Part-Qualified with the ability to demonstrate continuing professional development, strong technical expertise and the ability to interpret complex and evolving legislation.
Previous experience within a public sector setting is ideal but not essential.

You will automatically be enrolled into The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), this is a tax approved, defined benefit occupational pension scheme. Your contributions are based on your earnings and you can choose from different income options when you retire.
