North Northamptonshire Council is the new single unitary Council responsible for providing a range of public services to residents and businesses in the areas of Corby, East Northamptonshire, Kettering and Wellingborough. From April 2021 it replaced Corby Borough Council, East Northamptonshire Council, Kettering Borough Council and the Borough Council of Wellingborough, and now delivers all the services which were previously provided by these Councils, as well as services from the previous County Council.
As a dynamic, forward-thinking Local Authority, North Northamptonshire places strong financial management at the heart of everything we do. There is now an excellent opportunity for a Finance Professional to support Northamptonshire's Countywide Public Health Team as they recover and renew from the last 18 months of the global pandemic, leading on the team's budget monitoring, public health investment activities, budget setting and closedown of accounts.
Working with the Strategic Finance Business Partner, you will be responsible for providing support to the Public Health Professionals and budget managers including giving financial advice on new activities and initiatives, monitoring government grants, reviewing hosting arrangements and inter-agency agreements as well as liaise with the external auditor and other stakeholders across Northamptonshire.
You will hold a recognised CCAB (or CIMA) accountancy qualification with experience of preparing management accounts, forecasting, budgets and final accounts, preferably (but not essential) in a Local Authority. Experience of commercial activities undertaken by Local Authorities would be advantageous. You will need good interpersonal skills, substantial experience of working with computerised financial information systems and excellent communication skills. The role would suit an individual who is a self-starter, and enjoys a high level of autonomy in a role they are able to make their own and stamp their mark.
We offer an excellent package, including a competitive salary (between £39,456-£43,273), career average salary pension scheme, generous annual leave entitlement and a range of other benefits. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the majority of our staff are continuing to work from home at present and the option of continued flexible working arrangements beyond the pandemic is available. We reserve the right to close the vacancy once we have received sufficient applications, so please be advised to submit your application as early as possible.
