About Us

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue helps to support a wide, diverse community covering an area of over 783 square miles and a population of 2.3m people.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue serves the five metropolitan boroughs of City of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, City of Leeds and City of Wakefield. The Metropolitan county has grown to become the fourth largest in the UK after Greater London, West Midlands and Greater Manchester. The county also has Leeds Bradford International Airport.

The mission of the fire & rescue service is to keep the people of West Yorkshire safe and to provide an efficient and effective service to the community. The service has 40 fire stations and 46 frontline appliances.

About the Role

The role is wide and varying, including assistance to budget holders in setting the annual budget and then monitoring performance throughout the year. Its therefore imperative that you not only understand complex financial information but can then use your skills to ensure budget holders do too.

Alongside this the role includes support to the Treasury Management Officer in ensuring the Services’ investments are placed within the remit of the Treasury Management Strategy.

Finally, the Service is required to submit statutory returns and you will support this process throughout the year.

About You

As the role is quite diverse, you will need the ability to have effective time management and planning skills. The proficient use of MS Excel is a requirement due to the nature of the role.

It is expected that you will be a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), and/or ideally part-qualified/qualified with a professionally recognised accountancy body.

Our Values

We would expect any successful applicant to be able to uphold the following values;
Communication – “We clearly and carefully communicate, in ways everyone understands”
Integrity – “We are trustworthy and ethical in all that we do, acting with integrity always”
Learning – “We learn all the time; we share our experiences and celebrate success”
Responsibility – “We are responsible and take ownership of the work we do”
Team Work – “We recognise everyone’s strengths and contributions, working effectively as one team”

About the WYFRS Finance Department

The department is split into 3 key functions;

  1. Accounts (Management and Financial)
  2. Accounts Payable/Receivable

We recognise and reward you

The role itself is very rewarding, knowing you are playing your part in making West Yorkshire safer and you will have almost daily contact with departmental and operational colleagues.

The Service recognises the importance of wellbeing and as part of a package of benefits there is a generous annual leave entitlement, an employee assistance scheme open to all as well as access to a free gym and on-site parking.
If you can meet the challenge and feel you could be part of our service, we want to hear from you!
