Help make Stevenage Even Better

Stevenage is a thriving town full of opportunities for our communities, led by an innovative Council at its core. Our motto is “the heart of the town lies in its people” and, with everything from world-class R&D companies to our four award-winning Green Flag parks, our people are at the heart of what we do.

As an ambitious Council located in an ambitious town, we have a reputation for punching above our weight. We have set a new corporate mission to make Stevenage Even Better, with big ambitions to become a destination town of the future. We have recently secured £37.5million of investment funding to regenerate the town centre, making this an exciting time to join Stevenage.

The past 12+ months has been an unprecedented time in the wake of COVID-19. Where some councils have reduced their services in response, here at Stevenage we have and will continue to deliver the things that matter most to our residents – and to us. Through strong leadership and a focused strategy, the Council has a clear plan to steer itself to a balanced budget, with a realistic view of its future challenges.

To support our future aims, we seek a Technical Finance Manager (Chief Accountant) to provide strong leadership for our already high-performing technical accountancy team. As Chief Accountant, you will coordinate the statement of accounts cycle, support budget setting and lead the capital budget monitoring process. As the Council’s technical finance expert, you will lead on all matters such as Local Authority Company Accounts VAT, tax and treasury management, providing sound advice to the senior leadership team, our politicians and key stakeholders.

A fully qualified accountant, you will possess sound relationship building skills and have an ability to inspire and motivate your team through excellent communication skills. Ultimately, you will promote financial sustainability across the Council through effective leadership and partnership working to optimise key opportunities across the borough.

If you think you have what it takes, join us and help make Stevenage Even Better.
