Head of Finance
An opportunity has arisen for the position of Head of Finance in Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing Ltd (STaR) and applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced people.
STaR is an Arm’s Length Management Organisation (ALMO) established in 2013 as an independent company under the ownership of Shropshire Council to undertake the management of their retained stock of council homes and provide the financial management of the Council’s Housing Revenue Account (HRA). The housing stock is primarily located in the North West and South East of Shropshire, but we are looking to expand throughout the county where opportunities arise. We are a high performing organisation that has consistently delivered year on year improvement in our performance and satisfaction measures.
The role faces an interesting and diverse range of challenges and the successful applicant will be required to have knowledge of both Company Accounts and Local Government finance and ideally will have experience of the housing sector.
The post holder has responsibility to take the lead in the delivery of final accounts and preparation of financial statements, setting annual budgets and providing day to day financial management and control for the Company and the HRA. In addition to having responsibility for the management of the Company’s Finance Team the post holder will be required to bring a high level of technical accountancy skills to support and supplement the Team’s activity.
The Head of Finance sits on the Company’s Senior Management Team and contributes to the strategic management of the organisation. The role also involves attending meetings of the Board and its Sub-Committees to present reports and provide information and advice as necessary.
The role is based in our Shrewsbury offices but some level of home working will be considered. The successful applicant will benefit from flexible working hours, up to 32 days annual leave and the opportunity to join the Shropshire Local Government Pension Scheme.
Applicants must hold a professional accountancy qualification and have at least 5-years experience working at a senior level within financial management.
