Job Details

Our partner is a creative writing and mentoring centre for young people in Dorset, inspiring 7-18 year olds through the power of storytelling, unleashing their imaginations, building their confidence and enhancing their communication skills.

They are seeking a Treasurer to be part of this incredibly inspiring and creative new children's charity and to help build it from its inception.

The Treasurer will oversee the financial affairs of the organisation and ensure they are legal, constitutional and operate within accepted accounting practice. They will ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place as well as monitor and report on the financial health of the charity. They will also oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits.

They are looking to appoint someone with knowledge of financial management, good financial analysis skills as well as, ideally, knowledge and experience of fundraising within voluntary and community organisations.

The estimated total time commitment is approximately 1 to 5 hours per month. The board currently meets monthly (moving to bi-monthly from next year). They are very open to remote working and board meeting attendance can be online.

Please note that this is a volunteer role and there is therefore no remuneration.

For more Trustee/Treasurer roles please visit the AfID website.

Company

Accounting for International Development (AfID) offers every type of accountant, from anywhere in the world the opportunity to use their skills to support a broad range of non-profit organisations globally. Volunteer assignments of between 2 weeks and 12 months, &/or longer permanent placements, form part of our ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity of charities in over 50 countries.

AfID have now arranged assignments for over 1000 accountants from over 50 countries, providing over 250,000 hours of one to one support to more than 500 non-profit partners.

Our partners, which are a blend of international charities and grassroot NGOs, such as street child centres, hospitals, micro-finance institutions, conservation projects, women’s empowerment programmes and schools, are all doing amazing work to tackle extreme poverty and inequality but due to limited resources are unable to access vital financial management training.

The main focus of all AfID assignments is to develop the skills, confidence and potential of local people, enabling organisations to ultimately have the financial management capacity they need to deliver more sustainable programmes to their many beneficiaries, whilst maintaining good relations with their donors. Volunteers could be budgeting with a street child centre in Kampala (Uganda), coaching a hospital bookkeeper in Kigali (Rwanda) or financial reporting for a primary school in Kathmandu (Nepal).
