Are you a high performing finance professional seeking your next challenge?

Devon County Council is based in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, whether you like the sea, the countryside or the city, Devon is the place for you. We are a modern, forward thinking, large upper tier Authority, that offers many opportunities to create an impact with your work.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic finance professional to join the County Council in a newly created role of Deputy Head Accountant. The successful candidate will lead across a large diverse team, providing strategic and tactical advice and a comprehensive financial management service to senior managers and elected members covering Adult Care and Health services. This role is pivotal in ensuring systems and operations are in place for accurate financial reporting, forecasting, budget planning and modelling to inform both operational and strategic planning.  Experience of a social care or health care operating environment is desirable but not essential as being able to demonstrate strong leadership qualities and core management accountancy strengths are more important.

The role is suited to an effective communicator with first class interpersonal skills who is confident in dealing with senior management and colleagues alike.  Excellent IT and strategic analytical skills with a sound understanding of accounting principles is essential, as is the ability to organise and prioritise often conflicting demands to achieve deadlines accurately and on time.

Devon County Council is an ACCA approved employer, CIMA premier partner and a CIPFA platinum accredited employer. We will support your professional studies and Continuing Professional Development within a challenging but supportive environment that includes flexible opportunities.

For an informal discussion about the role and what it is like to work for us, please contact Alex Hosking or Mat Thorpe on 01392 383000.
