This position is for a term of 5 years, with eligibility for re-appointment.

About the role

In this newly created position, you will be responsible for the audit of all Isle of Man Government Departments, Boards and Offices. You will provide Tynwald (the Parliament of the Isle of Man) with independent assurance that the public finances of the Isle of Man are being regulated, controlled, supervised and accounted for appropriately.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across Government, you will establish a trusted and innovative audit system that champions good governance and the wise use of public money.

Within the role, you will consider and report on:

  • General corporate governance arrangements
  • Economy, efficiency and effectiveness in the way resources are used i.e. value for money
  • Effectiveness of internal controls

What can this role offer me?

As this is a new post, you will have the opportunity to shape and develop the office using your expertise and skill to set strategic direction and operational delivery.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of shaping the Island’s future – enabling it to succeed and grow; your work will ensure that resources are effectively used, and that value for money is achieved across Government.

It is envisaged that this will be a full time position but this is negotiable, and as an equal opportunities employer we will consider flexible working arrangements.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who holds an appropriate accountancy qualification, with significant knowledge of accountancy and audit, who also has experience of conducting value for money inspections. Experience in the public sector will be especially relevant.

In this exciting but challenging role, you will need the skills to balance conflicting pressures and make considered decisions.

You will need to build a wide range of relationships with politicians and with senior officers within Tynwald and across Government. The ability to influence effectively and to communicate clearly will be key to your success.
