he UK’s exit from the European Union has created the need for a brand new trade body. The European Commission handled trade remedies on behalf of the UK, therefore for the first time in many decades, the UK needs to take on the task of investigating unfair international trade practices and import practices such as dumping (selling goods overseas at prices lower than in the domestic market), and industrial subsidies. These practices, along with unexpected surges in imports, can damage UK industries. The Trade Remedies Investigation Directorate (TRID), within the Department for International Trade (DIT), is currently undertaking this work until it is established as the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA), which will be a Non-Departmental Public Body outside of the wider civil service. It is within this forward-thinking organisation that you could find an exceptional challenge.

Our investigations are at the heart of our work. We need to know that the business and financial information we are using is complete, accurate and relevant, and with your input, we can be certain that our cases will stand up to legal scrutiny and challenge. As a Lead Adviser in the Verification Support Team, your role will be critical to building the capability of Investigators to establish reliability of the material that they have received. With a focus on helping us build our verification expertise, you will be instrumental in designing and delivering training for colleagues, coaching and supporting them on casework and providing Independent quality assurance reviews of their work where appropriate. You will supervise and manage the work of a Verification Adviser who will work alongside you. There may be opportunities to travel both domestically and internationally as you support the case teams.

With plenty of support from the senior leadership team, plus a forward-thinking environment in which to further your expertise, this is an exciting opportunity to make your mark on the future of the TRA. To be equal to the challenge, you will therefore have a Charter-level qualification from a recognised accountancy body, and you will have experience of leading or managing teams in a commercial financial data audit or forensic accountancy environment. Capable of meeting tight deadlines, you will be an inspirational person who enjoys upskilling the financial skills of colleagues and explaining accountancy and audit related concepts. On a practical level you will enjoy working with complex data analysis, assessing information that you have been presented with, and identifying the areas for further investigation. Highly engaging with exemplary communication and leadership skills, you will use your knowledge and skills to enable colleagues to develop similar skills to ensure that the verification work undertaken on cases is at a high professional standard.

This is an exciting moment in time for the UK. The establishment of the TRA, will help ensure a fair basis on which business will be conducted, supporting every sector with responsible trade practices, and ensuring UK jobs are protected. Join us in this vital work, and you will be exposed to career defining opportunities. With access to a total rewards package and the scope to network extensively across a truly progressive department, you are sure to excel in our team.
