Position Overview

As Manager, Finance Operations in our Tokyo office, you will support the Senior Vice President, Global Financial Operations in the coordination of finance-related matters for Invenergy’s growing operations in Japan. In collaboration with the Accounting, Tax, and Treasury teams in Invenergy’s Chicago, USA office, you will provide management and oversight of the accounting, tax, and AP activities for electric generation facilities in various stages of development, construction and operations in Japan.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support developers, project managers, finance personnel, etc. on various finance-related matters related to greenfield developments, acquisitions, divestures, partnerships and joint ventures in Japan.
  • Propose and execute financial transactions that arise during the development of energy projects. For example, capitalization, decapitalizations, dividend payments, cost allocations, cost reimbursements, intercompany loans, among others.
  • Provide oversight of local service providers of accounting, tax, accounts payable, treasury, etc. functions, including the monthly close and reconciliation process, the preparation of, review, and audit of financial statements for accuracy and reasonableness and in accordance with accounting guidance per Japanese GAAP.
  • Partner with corporate functions (Accounting, Tax, Legal, Treasury, Finance, Insurance, Human Resources) to address and resolve a variety of business issues for Invenergy’s Japan operations.
  • Manage, track budgets, perform variance analysis, and prepare cash flow projections for each of Invenergy Japan’s projects.
  • Coordinate project treasury and banking activities, including the review of monthly cash disbursement schedules for projects in development, construction, and operations.
  • Manage accounts payable and wire transfer processes (managing requisition/purchase order process, including validation that invoices are compliant, preparing invoices for payment, etc).
  • Coordinate with Technical Accounting in Chicago by identifying transactions for technical accounting review and providing supporting information as necessary.
  • Coordinate with Tax in Chicago as well as Invenergy’s external Tax Preparer the consumption, corporation, inhabitant, business, and withholding tax filing requirements in Japan as required.
  • Support the accurate completion of Japanese GAAP and US GAAP deferred tax provisions, income tax computations, filings, and payments.
  • Support the Chicago office in building a team of in-house accounting and tax professionals in Japan.
  • Work closely with Accounting and Tax in Chicago to support development and implementation of accounting and tax policies and procedures consistent with Japanese GAAP.
  • Work closely with Financial Reporting, Tax, and International Accounting in Chicago to implement new accounting standards and local tax regulation relevant to the entities.
  • Prepare and present financial metrics for Invenergy’s Japan operations and provide comments and recommendations.
  • Support Finance in maintaining compliance with project debt and equity agreements.
  • Establish best practices for coordination between the Japan and corporate offices.

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 8-10 years of relevant Accounting or Finance experience at a US-based multinational company.
  • CPA or CPA equivalent.
  • Bilingual in Japanese and English, both written and oral.
  • Strong financial analysis skills with experience modeling forecasts in Excel, managing budgets, variance analyses, etc.
  • Existing understanding and expertise in Japanese GAAP and working knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Excellent process and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – able to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Responsible, dependable, and possessing an exceptional work ethic.
  • Ability to adhere to monthly, quarterly, and annual department driven deadlines.
  • Ability to concisely present information on complex financial matters to senior management.
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with tight timelines.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 2-3 times a year for up to 3-5 days in duration.

Preferred Skills

  • MBA or similar advanced degree.
  • Experience in energy generation, construction, or real estate development industry.
