Job Details

Cornwall Council is seeking to recruit a suitable person to act as an independent member of its Audit Committee.  The Audit Committee comprises 12 people, ten Council Members and two independent individuals.

An annual allowance of £1,390.17 is payable for this role.

Applications are invited from individuals with professional experience of a large organisation, preferably either as a senior manager or a member of another audit committee.  Ideally, you will have held strategic/financial management responsibilities.  You appreciate the importance of accountability in public life and have the ability to understand complex issues and make objective, evidence-based decisions.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential as is a strong understanding of corporate governance.

The role of the audit committee is to provide independent assurance to the Council regarding the adequacy and effectiveness of the Council’s governance, internal control and risk management arrangements and to oversee the statutory financial reporting process.  This assurance is primarily informed by the consideration of the work of the Council’s internal and external auditors.

The Audit Committee meets four times a year, and on an ‘exception’ basis as required.

This is a fixed term contract for 4 years.
