Are you driven by results? Can you combine incisive analysis of information and regulations with provision of advice and guidance to colleagues? If you’re a finance or taxation professional, looking for a fresh challenge, why not become our next VAT & Taxation Advisor?

We are

Bath & North East Somerset Council is a highly successful unitary local authority. Responsible for £344m budget annually, we deliver vital public services, from highways management to complex social support. Within a challenging budgetary context, we rely on innovative financial thinking and inspired strategic planning to ensure we deploy our resources to maximise value and impact for our 188 thousand residents.

You are

A successful finance or taxation professional, ideally with experience of working in a local authority, or similar complex organisation. Your in-depth technical knowledge is matched with well-developed people skills.

You relish a new challenge, and expect the opportunity to make a difference. You’re comfortable analysing a multi-dimensional financial picture, alongside relevant tax legislation, without compromising your keen eye for detail. This demanding post will take you further, offering opportunities to support and advise managers to ensure their projects and services delivery remain compliant with the latest taxation rules and regulations.

The role

This key role, providing strategic and professional finance support and advice, particularly regarding VAT, will give you the chance to develop and manage all aspects of tax planning, reporting and compliance across the Council.

Directly responsible to the Corporate Finance Manager, you’ll play a key role in the provision of advice on all VAT and taxation issues to officers at all levels of our organisation. You’ll proactively anticipate, research, interpret, analyse current and proposed tax regulations, determining their effect on the Council and the services it provides.

We know you keep a close eye on the specifics, so you’ll want to read through our job description and person specification to learn more about what’s involved and the skills we’re looking for.

The rewards

This expert role comes with an ambitious and collaborative and working culture, a generous benefits package, and plenty of opportunity to further your leadership skills. You’ll be based at our Keynsham Civic Centre offices, with occasional travel around our region including Bath city centre, and the chance to set a flexible working pattern that suits you.
