The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) was created on the 2 September with the merger of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Department for International Development.
The new Department promotes the interests of British citizens, safeguards the UK’s security, defends our values, reduces poverty and tackles global challenges with our international partners. Your role will involve combining two sets of accounts for a Department with 17,300 staff and over 285 offices worldwide – in the run up to the UK leaving the EU single market and customs union.
The role
Accountancy and financial operations positions rarely carry this level of complexity.
Alongside a small team, you will manage the production of key elements of the FCDO Group interim and final Annual Report and Accounts. We will also look to your technical knowledge on a wide range of accounting issues, and give you responsibility for a number of HM Treasury and Cabinet Office reporting functions.
Measurable improvements will be vital. So you will need to collaborate closely with key figures across the new Department, Arms’ Length Bodies and the National Audit Office. There will also be the chance to share your learnings at cross-Whitehall working groups to influence implementation of accounting standards.
About you
This is a highly technical role that calls for superb Excel and MS Office skills, as well as a CCAB qualification (or equivalent). Experience within a core financial department is essential – not least because you will need to be adept at managing multiple stakeholders.
