At the Royal College of Nursing we're an optimistic organisation. And we've got good reason to be. We all share the same voice when it comes to changing the shape of the health policies of the future. And as the largest trade union of nursing staff and students in the UK - with around 450,000 members - all we can see are the infinite possibilities for a brighter future. Join us and you will too. We're accredited with Investors in People Gold Standard.

As our Director of Finance and Business Enablement, you'll provide overall strategic direction to drive RCN business. You'll help formulate future direction of travel, optimising financial resources and support the implementation of strategic business plans.

You need to know your craft and be technically competent, but you will also need to be able to translate your experience to practice within a highly skilled and experienced workforce. You need to be able to have strategic vision, tactical tenacity and operational pragmatism to be able to shape strategies and systems that will work, leading and driving the implementation of the RCN and RCN Group Finance strategy.

Every day will be filled with possibilities and as a member of our UK Executive Team you will find new ways of promoting and enabling business agility, where the customer experience is the focus of service evolution, innovation and smart working is valued, new technologies are embraced, and the identification of income generation opportunities is encouraged.

Noting that Executive Director portfolios are subject to periodic review, at this time the Director of Finance and Business Enablement will provide leadership on the delivery of quality assurance, development and agility on all aspects of service delivery and expertise provided by the Finance, Member Administration, Commercial and Business Development functions.

Promoting and enabling a learning culture, where teamwork and cross-departmental collaboration are encouraged, excellence is recognised, and diversity is respected and valued, is at the heart of this key leadership role, as well as the ability to influence, negotiate, and impact to shape organisational image, culture and behaviours.

With a professional accountancy qualification as recognised by CCAB, you'll need to demonstrate a high level of understanding of finance statutory regulations and finance systems, pensions and risk management, corporate governance statutory regulations and charity finance and accountancy. You'll also need to possess an in-depth knowledge of legislation affecting your function responsibility areas now, and in the future.

An exceptional communicator with strong stakeholder management skills, sound financial management skills, business acumen and commercial awareness, you'll need to be a motivating and effective leader, who can build positive and productive relationships, with the ability to work effectively, negotiating and influencing a range of people at all levels.

Please note, that due to Covid-19, we are currently running Assessments and Interviews remotely should we need to, in accordance with Government advice, so if you envisage any issues with accessing a computer, webcam or a sufficient internet connection for a video call, then please do highlight this in your Supporting Statement. We will of course do all we can to ensure you have the best experience in applying to work with us during this challenging period.

For more information or for an informal discussion about the role with Dame Donna Kinnair, Chief Executive & General Secretary, please contact Danielle Boyle, Executive Assistant, on 020 7647 3781.
