Brighter. Bolder. Birmingham.

Birmingham City Council is the largest local authority in Europe – and we’re on the cusp of something truly special. With an annual spend of over £3billion we’re gearing up for major events such as the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the creation of HS2. Championing economic growth for the city, we’re determined to create a brighter future for all our citizens and at the heart of this ambition lies our Finance team. Join us and you won’t just improve life for 1.1 million people, you’ll help Birmingham become one of the world’s most successful, sustainable cities.

Our vision is for Finance to be a best-in-class function that’s agile, innovative and proactive, as well as diverse and inclusive. This is an incredibly exciting time for us; the opportunities for you to contribute and influence, to make bold and significant changes, are endless. As we change finance services to give customers more control and add value through data analytics and insight, you’ll be at the forefront of achievement and progress.

Our Treasury function manages a gross debt portfolio of £3.8bn (£3.3bn long-term and £500m short-term). It aims to be bold and innovative while following – and shaping – Treasury best practice guidance. This is an exciting time as we’re exploring non-traditional sources of financing such as a Private Placement of Debt. In this Senior Business Analyst role, you’ll report to the Treasury Manager, and be a key part of the Treasury Front Office Team.

It will be down to you to prepare cashflow projections using intricate internal treasury models while helping us to achieve best-in-class status. You’ll also manage and optimise our cashflow, working with external partners to manage the Council’s investment and borrowing needs. Then there’s the tasks of preparing treasury-related returns, completing year-end accounting and monitoring monthly reconciliations throughout the course of the year. Motivated, caring and passionate about what you do, you’ll have the numeric and people skills to deputise for the Treasury Manager.

We’re looking for a qualified accountant to manage treasury operations. You’ll keep your knowledge up to date and have a good grasp of relevant legislation. You’ll also bring solid expertise in management accounting, planning, budgeting, forecasting and performance management. You will manage more junior analysts and give sound advice on all kinds of operational issues.

This is more than your next finance role. It’s a chance to create a brighter, bolder Birmingham.
