Brighter. Bolder. Birmingham.

Birmingham City Council is the largest local authority in Europe – and we’re on the cusp of something truly special. With an annual spend of over £3billion we’re gearing up for major events such as the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the creation of HS2. Championing economic growth for the city, we’re determined to create a brighter future for all our citizens and at the heart of this ambition lies our Finance team. Join us and you won’t just improve life for 1.1 million people, you’ll help Birmingham become one of the world’s most successful, sustainable cities.

Our vision is for Finance to be a best-in-class function that’s agile, innovative and proactive, as well as diverse and inclusive. This is an incredibly exciting time for us; the opportunities for you to contribute and influence, to make bold and significant changes, are endless. As we change finance services to give customers more control and add value through data analytics and insight, you’ll be at the forefront of achievement and progress.

As a Finance Manager, you’ll lead a small team to provide the best possible support to schools and the Council’s education services. It means advising on budgets, providing financial forecasts and thinking carefully about how resources are distributed and used to provide the children of Birmingham with a good education. Compliance with financial legislation, especially the Dedicated Schools Grant is vital, and you’ll also need to know the Education & Skills Directorate’s business plan inside out. Motivated, caring and passionate about your work, you’ll be on top of the challenge and ready to deputise for the Finance Business Partner.

A role on this scale calls for an experienced finance manager with tried and tested skills. CCAB qualified or equivalent, you’ll have in-depth knowledge of management accounting, planning, budgeting, forecasting and performance management. You’ve also advised at senior levels, worked successfully with partners and brought in change initiatives. Articulate, resilient and politically smart, you can draw on excellent business acumen and innate determination.

This is more than your next finance role. It’s a chance to create a brighter, bolder Birmingham.
