Finance Lead - Waste Management
We are hiring a finance expert with knowledge of Waste Management and Contracts on behalf of a major English metropolitan Council. Joining as the finance expert on major Waste Contracts, the right candidate will bring rigour and sound financial advice to a busy, high-cost, occasionally contentious and very high profile aspect of Local Authority Services.
You’ll need to quickly get up to speed on the nuances of the contract between the Council and the major provider, establishing the key tenets of the agreement but also quickly establishing the practical operation of the contract, and how it is managed and reported. You’ll work closely with the service, providing them with the financial advice they need to make sound decisions and get the best possible value for money for residents.
You will need to be comfortable and familiar with complex financial models and the information and insight they provide, although the technical aspect of modelling is largely in place already. You will also be able to identify how the service operates, make sure that the supplier information provided is accurate and gives proper insight, and be able to robustly challenge around both operational performance and charges.
With a recently-completed review due to release findings in the New Year, the service is likely to undergo significant transformation over the coming year or so, and the right candidate could have an opportunity to establish themselves as a long term advisor to the Council and help bed down a new way of delivering the service.
The role has been assessed as In Scope of IR35, and is offered on a three month rolling basis.
