The Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy (CIPFA), the world’s only professional accountancy body to specialise in public services, is seeking an exceptional individual to provide strategic vision, delivery and leadership on economic policy and research at CIPFA.

As Chief Economist you will shape CIPFA’s public policy with professional analysis and direction. Playing a central role in building CIPFA’s public profile, enabling an understanding of economics across all aspects of CIPFA’s work, informing policy research programmes, external engagement with media, decision-makers, opinion formers, and campaigning. 

The role has full access to CIPFA’s statistics and data on public service spending which could be used in innovative research projects on local revenue, spending, and efficiency. CIPFA also works closely with leading universities, academics and publishers (having a unique link to the academic journal Public Money and Management) and offers opportunity for significant academic outputs.

The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in economics or a related discipline and the ability to demonstrate an excellent understanding of current issues in fiscal policy especially related to UK public services.
