Job Details

At Westminster City Council, we believe in creating a ‘City for All’. A supportive and safe environment where people can learn throughout their lives, enjoy high quality, affordable homes, and build fantastic careers in world-leading industries.

If we’re to do this, fiscal excellence will be key. Not only in terms of our management of finances, but in our ability to maximise every budget, effectively use every resource, and drive towards ever–better ways of working – pivotal targets for our SFM Strategic Projects and Commercial Lead.

The Role:

Working under the Assistant City Treasurer, you’ll set and oversee a range of key strategic finance initiatives for the Council.

We’ll also ask you to be the driving force behind your team and a wide range of projects, including commercial initiatives, financial modelling, development schemes, change management and contract reviews.

This is not a routine finance role. Your challenges will stretch from the strategic to the practical, human to digital – and always demand innovation and incisive thinking.

It’s high profile too, demanding close collaboration with executive directors, cabinet members and the wider finance department.

As part of our Senior Financial Management team, you’ll have a voice on ongoing strategy and objectives. Excitingly, there’ll also be the chance to act as the financial advisor to the board of one of our subsidiaries, WestCo, which specialises in public sector communications.

Finally, you’ll be a champion for our values and always lead by example in upholding our commitments to diversity, inclusion and empowering others.

About You:

It’s vital that you bring a wealth of senior financial management experience, as well as a deep knowledge and sensitivity of the issues facing local government and the public sector.

A strong, charismatic leader, you will know how to deliver insightful financial analysis and advice, shape business cases and champion due diligence. But beyond leading and developing successful virtual teams, it is a track record of discernibly improving every aspect of your remit that will be key.

Used to building partnerships across complex organisations and managing resources in multi-disciplinary environments, your astute project management style will also instil confidence in everyone you meet – and help others to exceed expectations.

The Council and its partners are committed to achieving diverse shortlists for all vacancies at Band 4 or above to support our desire to increase the number of staff from underrepresented groups in our workforce. If you are from a black, Asian and minority ethnic background (BAME), we invite you to self-declare this to the hiring manager as part of our positive action commitments.

What We Offer:

It goes without saying that you can leave a valuable legacy for the Borough in this role. Equally, it will prove your ability to progress to the most senior of finance roles.

So, if you’re productive, ambitious, collaborative and enterprising, this is your chance to take real ownership of your work, right in the heart of Westminster.

This is a one-of-a kind place where different ideas and perspectives are welcome. Join us and help shape our city for years to come.
