Head of Financial Accounts Job Description:

The Head of Financial Accounts is a key role in the Finance Directorate, with responsibility for overseeing and managing the financial accounting team of eight colleagues. The role provides expertise in complex technical areas including capital accounting, the application of IFRS and NHS accounting rules, cash-flow forecasting, VAT, and leading the production of the statutory monthly and annual accounts. The role is a key part of the leadership of the financial services function and the wider department.

The key elements of the role include:

  • Delivering high quality accounting services which achieve targets for timeliness accuracy and financial control
  • Maintaining the integrity of the financial systems within the Trust, to develop financial policies and practices as required, and liaise with external and internal audit and counter-fraud
  • Leading the month end process for financial accounts and reporting to external agencies
  • Leading the production of the Trust Annual Accounts and manage the external audit process
  • Overseeing the agreement of balances (AOB) quarterly and annual processes

Head of Financial Accounts Person Specification:

The Head of Financial Accounts role would suit a CCAB qualified accountant with post qualification experience in the public sector, practice or industry. It is essential that this person has knowledge of financial and accounting procedures, financial reporting standards and has proven experience managing month and year end financial processes in a timely and accurate way. This person must also have experience leading, managing and developing teams.

You do not need to have NHS experience to be considered for this role, however, experience working in or auditing large, complex organisations is essential.
