Wakefield Council is looking to recruit a committed, self-motivated Accountant.

This is an exciting opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic individual to work within a busy, highly motivated, strong performing and friendly finance team within an organisation which sets its sights and ambitions high for both its employees and residents.

We are ambitious for our District and strive to be an excellent and successful organisation.

Our vision for the District is clear; where people thrive, businesses succeed, and visitors are welcome and we need the best people to help us deliver.

This role is within the Financial Accounting, Capital and Treasury Management team where we are looking to appoint a flexible professional accountant to work with the Group Finance Manager.  You will take on the lead role in the preparation of the statutory final accounts in accordance with the CIPFA Code of Practice and the financial reporting standards, through the provision of high quality advice to a team of finance professionals.  You will also liaise effectively with our external auditor and look to create and deliver initiatives to ensure the continuous improvement of the service.

The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified accountant, preferably CIPFA, with significant experience in a local authority finance environment. You will be able to demonstrate experience in the preparation of statutory accounts, together with strong technical accounting skills and a good working knowledge of the local authority financial codes of practice. You should have a proven track record of undertaking complex financial analysis and possess the ability to communicate this information in an understandable manner. You must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to form effective working relationships.

For an informal discussion, please contact Colette Tyrell, Group Finance Manager (Financial Accounting, Capital and Treasury Management) on 01924 306418.

This vacancy is open ended.  We reserve the right to close this vacancy once sufficient suitable applications have been received. It is advisable to apply early to avoid disappointment as applications will be assessed on a regular basis.
