Director of Finance Operations
We are seeking an outstanding finance leader for the role of Director of Finance Operations, leading over 200 staff with responsibility for financial management, accounting and control across Defra group.
Finance within DEFRA has been on a transformation journey to bring together the finance functions of the core Department and our major delivery organisations – the Environment Agency, the Animal and Plant Health Agency, Natural England and Rural Payments Agency. This is a key leadership role in our ongoing transformation and in the delivery of excellent financial services in a complex public sector environment.
In Defra we deal with a vast range of issues that profoundly impact on people’s lives. We are responsible for England’s environment, our countryside and rural economy, the food and farming sectors and have lead responsibility for protection from a wide range of natural threats and hazards. We are also one of the lead departments in delivering a successful exit from the EU and this will fundamentally change the work we do and how we deliver it. This role will be critically important in achieving our vision of ‘creating a great place for living’.
The successful candidate will be an excellent finance leader, able to engage staff across the country in change and transformation and able to build strong relationships, advising and influencing within a highly complex organisation. They will also be expected to hold a professional finance qualification (CCAB, CIMA or equivalent).
Location: The main Defra offices are in York, Bristol and London and a regular presence at one of these is required. Travel to London for certain meetings is essential.
