Fast-paced, wide-ranging and ever-evolving:

Discover life in our Finance team.

The challenge

Often in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is a growing, rapidly-evolving public corporation. Essentially, we’re responsible for shaping and delivering the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. We’re now looking for a Management Accountant to bring energy and proven skills to our fast-paced Finance Directorate.

The role
Finance plays a key role in making our Corporate Plan and Strategic Vision happen. Accurate budgeting is critical and you’ll be in charge of vital processes. As well as taking the lead in this area, you’ll see that that we charge industry correctly, with fair and transparent invoicing. There’ll also be the task of contributing to annual reports and accounts, and developing financial strategy. At the same time, you’ll provide support ONR-wide, giving advice and information. That means you need to be good with people and an enthusiastic business partner. Full of initiative, curiosity and drive, you’ll thrive on the chance to learn by working with different teams and people within and outside ONR.

The person

CCAB-qualified (or an experienced finalist), you bring a background in management accounting, an analytical mindset and supervisory abilities. This means you’re used to modelling scenarios, conducting variance analysis and guiding junior Accountants. And of course, you’re up to speed with Excel and Microsoft Office functions. With this expertise, you’ll have the credibility to work with senior figures, providing high-level guidance. Often, you’ll be explaining the results of highly complex techniques to non-Finance managers. Whatever the challenge, you’ll strive for success, keeping pace with a busy, fast-moving Directorate.

The rewards

We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £38,899 - £47,829. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). Plus, you’ll receive a generous holiday entitlement.

About us

ONR is a Public Corporation with a Mission to ensure the highest standards of safety and security across all of the UK’s licensed nuclear sites. Our staff are drawn from a wider range of professional backgrounds in order to run a stand-alone business with specialist inspectors to deliver our core business including civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear physics. And together they’re involved in everything from assessing safety cases, inspecting nuclear sites, communicating our decisions, training new recruits and representing the UK and ONR within the wider international nuclear community.
